Five Meta Ads mistakes to check in your online store.

Too few distinct hypotheses, weak measurement, and premature scaling make decisions harder. Check these five mistakes before your next test.

Five mistakes I check first

  1. An unclear goal: a click is not a purchase or a new customer.
  2. The same message in different formats: more versions do not mean more hypotheses.
  3. Duplicate purchases: check events and order identifiers.
  4. Increasing spend too soon: one good day does not establish a stable CAC.
  5. Using remarketing as proof of acquisition: evaluate existing brand interest separately from new customers.

For each mistake, define how to check it and what to change next. That helps you understand what the test changed.

The role of remarketing

A visitor may leave because of price, timing, doubts, or an unsuitable product. A follow-up ad can answer an unresolved question. Repeating the same promise does not necessarily address the reason they left.

A cheap attributed purchase is not proof of an additional purchase

Remarketing can reach people who would have bought without the ad. A high ROAS alone therefore does not prove additional sales. Compare new and returning customers, audience size, frequency, and total spend. Where scale allows, assess the effect with a planned experiment.

A practical plan

  1. Group common reasons for not completing a purchase.
  2. Prepare relevant answers and verifiable evidence.
  3. Adjust customer exclusions around your repeat-purchase goal.
  4. Check the catalog, events, and consent.
  5. Watch frequency and the store's results, as well as individual campaigns.
